socketing normal weapons with cube

Thats what I mean:

1 Ral Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Normal Weapon = Socketed
Weapon of same type

Now my question:

Can I get a "superior" or "etheral" modification on the endproduct?

Because I never ever found a socketed Berserker Axe, an etheral Berserker
Axe or both.
I only see magic Berserkers from time to time.

I wonder where all those BotD-etheral-Berserkers coming from...

Well, ethereal Berserker Axes do drop, but it doesn't happen often.
Especially with the Superior mod on them also. That's why a weapon like
that is already worth a lot.

If you find one, use the socket quest for a guaranteed 6 sockets.

elite armors). But can a normal item transform to a socketed+superior
(etheral) item over that formula?

For example: I had a normal paladin shield with 46 resist all on it. I
thought I can use the socketing formula on it to get (maybe) 2 sockets for
rhyme-runeword. I got 2 sockets but the 46 res all changed to something
like 20 :(

Can only class specific "skills" change during that transformation or others
too?

Anyone?

I don't think the item will ever change to ethreal...

Aha, funny, so the recipe above also rerolls the inherent mods on the
item, just like the 'repair' recipe (to go from a 'cracked' item to a
'normal' item, rerolls the mods on for instance a necro wand.)

You will never be able to get a transformation from normal -> ethereal
from that recipe. And the result will also never become superior (as you
can probably guess).

If you want the item to remain unchanged while socketing, use the Larzuk
socket quest. But keep in mind this always gives you the maximum number of
sockets that item can get (which in turn is dependent on where you found
it, and what ilvl it has...)

Thanks for posting that link, I had no idea the cube could be used for the
transmutation of higher runes. Now I can quit "taking the pipe" on some of
my trades:-)

etheral works fine, "normal" in this context means without prefix such as
superior, cracked.

Only one socket for rare, set, or unique items.
Non-magical items can get from one to six, depending
on the item type and where it was found.
