sorc experts....HELP!

Now that I have NightSmoke (50% damage goes to mana) is there any
benefit to maxing energy shield? (this would put damage to mana over
100%)

I know there is a relationship between Telekenesis and energy shield.
Does puting points into TK reduce my damage in any way increasing my
effective life/mana points?

Thankyou in advance for your expert advice.

You misunderstand the effects

Example, you have 100 life, 100 of 150 mana and either level 1 ES or a
nightsmoke belt.

Nightsmoke: Get hit for 10 points of damage, lose 10 life, gain 5 mana
ES: Get hit for 10, lose 8 life, 4 mana

With Nightsmoke, you end with 90 life and 105 mana
With ES, it's 92 life and 96 mana

From Arreat:

Each point in Telekinesis makes Energy Shield's damage absorption more
effective. By default, for each point of damage absorbed by Energy Shield, 2
mana points are deducted - a 200% ratio. Each hard skill point in
Telekinesis makes Energy Shield 6.25% more effective. For example, with 8
points in Telekinesis, 1.5 mana points are deducted for each point of damage
absorbed - a 150% ratio. With 16 points in Telekinesis, one point of damage
absorbed equals one point of mana loss - a 100% ratio.
This means less of a mana drain while absorbing damage, at the cost of
spending SP's in Telekinesis

Looking at the decreasing returns i'd go for one point (+skills) in ES and
some more in TK to make the DR effect more economical. If you can get +6
lightning skills total that would make the DR effect of ES 50%

Hope this helps

Ahh, Nightsmoke doesn't work the same way as energy shield. With
Nightsmoke, if a monster hits you for 100 damage, you will take the full
100 damage to health but also have 50 mana added. With slvl 7 energy
shield, if a monster hits you for 100 damage, you will take 50 damage to
health and 50 damage to mana.

How do the two (Nightsmoke and Energy shield) work together? Someone
else will have to answer that 'cause I don't know. But, if the spell has
the first effect, the you would take 50 damage to health and 25 damage
to mana. If the item has the first effect and your mana is full at the
time, then you will take 50 health damage and 50 mana damage. If your
mana is more than max -50 then you will take 50 heath damage and zero
mana damage.

As Daniel has posted an explanation already I only want to say all the
1.10 sorceress guides I have read so far recommend putting one point
into ES and then first max TK before spending further points in ES.

Personally, I would never put more than one point in either. Rather max
out my attack skills, and rely on +skills gear to get the % up on ES. The
mana drain isn't a problem anymore, since it's possible to buy mana pots.
